In Loving Memory
My Dear Friends,
Please allow me to say a few words about my mother, Beate Montagna.
My mother was my rock!
She passed away just before her 96th birthday.
Beate Ludwina Montagna
My mother demonstrated courage and strength at an early age when she decided to venture to America from Germany as a young woman in her twenties. Knowing very little English, she attended classes to learn the language. As luck would have it, that is when my parents met and began their love affair; lasting 71 years. Together they embarked on an unknown journey of creating a trout fishing club. My mother not only cared for her young family but undertook the challenge of developing and running Deep Springs. She displayed perseverance and fortitude as she learned all that she could about trout (how to: care, catch, clean, and prepare). In fact, it was my mother’s European background, a simple gesture of inviting others to try a meal, which elevated the Club’s offerings to include inhouse dining. Mom, had very high standards. She never skimped. She demanded quality; both in the food she offered as well as in the service provided. Staff members displaying prompt, friendly, attentive, respectful behavior, and demonstrating a positive work ethic were spared her sharp constructive criticism. Those that did not, quickly adapted, or left. Her expectation of standards were not limited to just the kitchen and club house. The property of Deep Springs was also subjected to her scrutinizing eye. It is for this reason, many have referred to our property as a paradise. To say that my mother laid the groundwork for Deep Springs Trout Club’s reputation of preparing quality food, offering exemplary service, and providing a hidden oasis; is an understatement. I am extremely proud and honored that many members of our core staff were groomed by my Mom and continue in her footsteps today.

Please take comfort in knowing:
Those we love don’t go away.
They walk beside us every day.
Unseen, unheard, but always near,
so loved, so missed, so very dear.
